The Decline of Wild Honey Bees

Fifty years ago, wild honey bees were prevalent across America, providing essential pollination for crops that humans depend on. Like many other similar issues, global trade has introduced invasive pests that have caused the wild bee population to essentially cease to exist. Today, without people keeping and maintaining honey bees, our food supply would be critical. That is the reason for the efforts to “Save The Bees.”

Most of us can remember growing up and going into the woods and seeing native bees living in the wild. Sadly, that is no longer the case. Native honey bee decline has become a growing issue. Federal, state, and local governments, along with universities and private individuals, have undertaken the task of studying and testing methods to help keep honey bees happy and healthy. Honey bees in America cannot survive on their own without the support of people.

The Start of Bella Vita Honey

With that and our garden in mind, our family decided to start Bella Vita Honey. Bella Vita is Italian for “beautiful life,” which is what we are trying to give our Italian bees. When it became evident there was a high demand for local raw honey in our area of Tennessee, we decided to start our own business and provide honey and related bee products to sell locally.

Our Commitment to Pure, Raw Honey

We started bottling small amounts of our honey and selling it at local farmers markets, but that has developed over time. Now we are offering our products to stores and online as well. All of our honey is natural, raw, and unfiltered, so the honey stays just the way it was in the hive—full of pollen, aroma, and flavor. Our honey is still bottled by hand and delivered with pride from our family to yours.
